Leaders
Inspire and show the way!
As a leader of a sports club or organisation, you are responsible for shaping the culture within it: you decide ‘how we do things here’.
Unfortunately, the prevailing culture in some sports clubs and organisations in Scotland involves ‘Winning at all Costs’ – the match, game or competition on Saturday – often at the expense of the social, emotional and longer term skills development of young people.
Moreover, this ‘Win at all Cost’ mentality can also have a significant negative impact on recruitment retention and longer term capacity building in your club.
PCS offers a more desirable alternative to ‘Winning at all costs’ that can bring your club or organisation even greater success within and out with the sporting arena.
PCS advocates a positive shift in the culture of youth sport in Scotland and believes that leaders can play a significant role in shaping that change by embracing the PCS ethos built on the principles of:
- Honouring the Game (ROOTS)
Teaching respect for Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, Self
Focusing on Effort, Learning skills and recovering from Mistakes
- Filling the Emotional Tank (E-Tank)
Encourage, Teach, Appreciate, Non-verbal support, Know how to praise
Committing your club or organisation to creating a positive coaching culture in which:
- all coaches are Double-Goal Coaches.
- the club/organisation acquires the PCS Kitemark.
- all the key influencers within or attached to the club/organisation – volunteers, officials, parents and coaches – share a common language and vision geared towards developing skills, building character and teaching valuable life lessons to young people in a truly family friendly club.
