80 parents attend football workshop

PCS joined forces with Falkirk FC in early October to hold a parents’ workshop aimed at educating local mums and dads on the virtues of Positive Coaching.
Entitled ‘Falkirk FC in the community’, 80 parents attended the event at Moray Primary School.
The workshop was held to help parents and carers of young footballers to ensure that their youngsters enjoy the beautiful game in a suitable environment – namely one that encourages fun and rewards effort, rather than focusing on results.
By concentrating on the learning experience football can offer youngsters, as well as the obvious fun of playing, Positive Coaching Scotland and Falkirk FC are working to ensure the long-term retention of players, encouraging them to stay in the game for their whole lives, leading to a healthier, happier nation.
Richard Fox, Falkirk FC senior community coach, commented:
“The development of young footballers has often been overshadowed by the need to win on the scoreboard. Positive Coaching Scotland ensures that children are allowed to develop their talents in a positive environment and learn that, at this early developmental stage, success comes through effort rather than the scoreboard.
“Within the football development department of Falkirk FC, we all have an enormous responsibility to ensure that children enjoy the learning experience associated with football. Positive Coaching Scotland enables us to adopt a philosophy that supports the needs of young children as they learn through play.
“The role parents have to play is enormous. The turn-out we have had tonight has been fantastic, I am delighted so many parents are committed to creating a positive football environment at our club.”
Grant Small, programme manager for Positive Coaching Scotland, added:
“We are delighted to have such a positive turn out at tonight’s workshop, this speaks volumes for the work ‘Falkirk in the Community’ is doing for the local area.
“Positive Coaching Scotland is delighted to be working with Falkirk FC to create a positive football environment for all young football players. By attending our workshops, parents learn how best to develop not only their child’s football skills, but how to develop their child as a young person.
“The lessons taught at positive Coaching Scotland workshops can be invaluable to a child’s development.”
