Glasgow's champion coaches recieve recognition

Glasgow's first 'Double Goal Coaches'

20/01/2010

A number of coaches from Drumchapel United have become Glasgow's first Double Goal Coaches.

The coaches recieved their certificates at a workshop held in Drumchapel this week.

This is a significant step for football coaching in the area as the club's coaches are well versed in encouraging effort and learning in the youngsters they coach.

Speaking after the workshop, David Bickley, Development Officer for Culture and Sport Glasgow, said: "Achieving the Double Goal Coach Certificate is the first step in recognising the effort and commitment made by coaches to positively influence Glasgow's football culture."

"It is hoped that the effective roll out of PCS will help to reduce the significant drop out rate from sport that currently exists in Glasgow and throughout Scotland."

Tommy Boyle, Positive Coaching Scotland Programme Director said: "Drumchapel United is an excellent example of a football club in which the club leaders are providing inspiration, direction and shaping the culture within the club.

"It is important that the process is continued throughout the club and we hope this will encourage other clubs in the Glasgow area to follow suit."

"I left the workshop feeling positive and looking forward to pushing the message across Fife. I think the coaches will be very receptive to the workshops."
